Daily Scripture Readings: Psalm 27, 1 John 1

Sunday Psalm 27.1-3 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to devour my flesh— my adversaries and foes— they shall stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, yet I will be confident.

Monday Psalm 27.4-5 One thing I asked of the Lord, that I will seek after: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in God’s temple. For God will hide me in their shelter on the day of trouble; The Lord will conceal me under the cover of a tent; and will set me high on the rock.

Tuesday Psalm 27.6 Now my head is lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will bring an offering to the sacred altar with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

Wednesday Psalm 27.7-10 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me! “Come,” my heart says, “seek his face!” Your face, Lord, do I seek. Do not hide your face from me. Do not turn your servant away in anger,  you who have been my help. Do not cast me off, do not forsake me,O God of my salvation! If my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up.

Thursday Psalm 27.11-14 Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. Do not give me up to the will of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen against me, and they are breathing out violence. I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Friday 1 John 1. 1-3 We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us—  we declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Creator and with God’s Son Jesus Christ.

Saturday 1 John 1.4-5 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in Them there is no darkness at all.

Music: I Am Light - India Arie

Meditation: Langston Hughes, As I Grew Older

It was a long time ago. I have almost forgotten my dream. But it was there then, in front of me, bright like a sun— My dream.

And then the wall rose, rose slowly,rSlowly, between me and my dream. rose until it touched the sky— The wall. Shadow. I am black. I lie down in the shadow. No longer the light of my dream before me, above me. Only the thick wall. Only the shadow.

My hands! My dark hands! Break through the wall! Find my dream!  Help me to shatter this darkness, to smash this night, to break this shadow Into a thousand lights of sun, into a thousand whirling dreams of sun!
